Krasnoyarsk is the capital of Universiade 2019

Executive Committee for the International University Sports Federation chose Krasnoyarsk as the capital of the International Winter Universiade 2019 on 9 November 2013.

Vitaly Mutko, the RF Minister of Sport, spoke to FISU representatives and he called Krasnoyarsk a student city which has trained distinguished athletes, Olympic winners for many years.

«It is a wonderful city on the banks of the Yenisey river with a large federal university where many talented young people study. I believe the Universiade in Siberia will become a gem in the history of winter university sports», — Vitaly Mutko said.

Governor of Krasnoyarsk krai Lev Kuznetsov thanked the citizens of Krasnoyarsk and other regions of the country including those from Kazakhstan. He said that their generous help may contribute to making student competition in Krasnoyarsk a wonderful global festival.

«I am sure that we deserve the honour. We will be able to host the Universiade and meet the expectations of young people from Siberia, Russia, and the globe. It's a great responsibility. That's why we say to the world: 'Welcome to Siberia' », — Lev Kuznetsovsaid.

The delegation also included SibFU's Rector Eugene Vaganov«It is the first project of federal significance for the last fifty years in the region. It gives a chance to promote Krasnoyarsk krai internationally. I think it is not only a chance to build a decent infrastructure but also to enhance the image of the city, — Eugene Vaganov said. — However, five hours of triumph may cost five and a half years of hard labour».

Michael Vdovin, SibFU's student and volunteer for Krasnoyarsk's bidding campaign, spoke on behalf of students who may take part in the Universiade: «I want the world to know about us. I want to meet Europeans, Asians and Americans who will respond to the name of Krasnoyarsk with a smile and exclamation: 'Oh, it's in Siberia, the venue of Universiade'».
